NZ Motorbike Registration Rip Off

I don't know how you feel but sick of getting hit hard in the pocket everytime I pay road users on my motorbike.

At one stage, someone in the Government had a brain fart and was going to make us pay a $1 a cc... eg 1000cc bike would cost $1000 a year for registration.
Now we pay more than cars on road users charges, cause there excuse is that we have a lot more accidents.

Wrong, how many car wreckers in New Zealand that have damage from accidents.
Another thought for you how many of those cars were licenced for the road at the time and wasn't added to the list of car accidents.
Bikes are also the most expensive to get Insurance for and most Insurance Companies avoid us like the black plague.

More and more do I hear about car owners, opening car doors on riders and pulling out in front of us. Because they couldn't see us or even hear us.
I have been hit by a car that pulled into a service station without idicating, then had the balls to ask about me about paying damages and didn't care about me or the bike.
Lucky there were witnesses.

My motto now is: louder the bike, the more to be heard.

Yes the LTSA wants us to quieten the bikes down, that even means that you have stock standard exhaust.
But have heard Boy racer pipes louder than bikes.

A rider got pulled over the other day and just picked up his brand new off the floor Harley Davidson.
On his trip home got pulled over by the Police aka Road Nazi's, for too loud of noise from his bike.

Ok here is my point...
Car licence Fee: $211.84
12Months
Motorbike Licence fee: $224.28
12 Months
Motorcycle Scooter 50cc or less:$90.00 give or take
12months

Don't get me wrong, but aren't scooters more chance of getting hit in an accident.
They are hard to see and hear.

About time they looked in it, as we do alot of work for the community in raising funds for Emergency Services etc.
We do have friends and follow riders that need their help and are greatful, so we help out as much as we can.

We are all in for a greater shock as the Government is also on the trail, to up the price again on registration on all vehicles.
Take a real hard look, why are they trying to drop petrol costs.

So then you won't say much about the increase on registration fees.
I know of a few unregisted riders and car owners out there but the Police have a little fund raiser going aswell.
It's hello, I see you don't have registration that must mean no Warrant of Fitness.
Because in New Zealand you have to have the Warrant first before Rego.
So followed by the ticket and calculator.

Revinning a motorcycle is also a big joke, if I have drum brakes on my bike they don't have to be checked. But if I had disk brakes then have to be stripped down and checked.
So to be put on the road it has to be brake checked, then WOF, new plate and papers, vinned and then Rego.

Silly thing is I can go to the nearest LTNZ and get a Scooter done, by just getting a new number plate and no WOF needed and doesn't need WOF done ever.

Alot of new riders are hitting the roads these days including, doctors, lawyers, politicians as well as businessman.
All because of fuel rising fuel costs and cheap commuting, but also the best of all the freedom.

Cost of getting a motorbike licence for riding a bike is bloody expensive now.
Have to pay for riding course, then sitting learners licence, then restricted licence and then the full licence. I think about $300.
Here is a fact, most accidents are caused by older riders that haven't riden in years, and buy a nice new bike off the showroom floor and don't realise the power that they have than the old Honda's etc.
I have seen it first hand and heard about it also.

All I want is to give us a fair go, young and old who like to ride and enjoy ourselfs.

Nothing like riding through New Zealand on a motorbike.

Safe Riding, brothers and Sisters

  1. I am looking at my renewal of a motor vehicle licence form asking me for $517.25.
This is not only crazy but unfair. Nick Smith has made a broad sweeping statement that motorcyclists are costing the ACC system too much money without looking into ALL the facts as to who causes the accidents. When large sums of money are involved then you must have all the facts and present a case that can be examined and challenged before making it law. Our government has failed us on this issue.
